An Elephant and a Gecko

Well, we saw our first elephant in Thailand walking down Sukhumvit. Sukhumvit is a crazy busy street, but it's the heart of the tourist district, hence the elephant. We were in a cab, so sadly didn't have time for a picture.

We also had some excitement about 5am today. We had our first Thai lizard in the house! More specifically, a flat-tailed house gecko, nearly six inches long. Matthew found him on the bathroom wall and tried to get him, but he ran behind the mirror. After another attempt, the little dude ran into our spare bedroom. Matthew, the ever-valiant warrior, brought in two cats (the third slept through the whole thing!) and closed the door. I heard much rustling and moving of furniture, but nothing. Finally, Matthew bursts out carrying the lizard in a washcloth, and then ran it outside in his underwear! Turns out, Tinkerbell spotted the gecko as he made his move out from under the bed to dart behind the litterbox.

I do wonder if there was more than one in the house, however, as we did find a few tiny spots of blood on the floor and Scrappy was very sick all day. I bet he got one too.

My kitters killed herself a gecko today, too! I was shocked, as she is sick, but she was meowing proudly outside the patio door with this poor thing on the mat. (I wouldn't have been so concerned about it if it had been in the house, tho!)

Welcome to Thailand! (Like I live there or something!)

Let the gecko games begin!! These guys are actually heaven sent, as they eat all the mozzies that perform nonstop home invasions!!
I once got a photo of an elephant sauntering down sukumvit - right in front of a gas station. Very effective.
